My father brought us here because he knew that this great country give us the opportunity for a better life if we choice to have one, or not is that is what we want, it is our choice, whereas, in Peru, if you were born to the right family than your opportunity for a better life it there for the taking, but if your are born to the wrong family the opportunity to get out of poverty it next to impossible.

I went back to Peru (as a naturalized American Citizen,) when I was a young adult, it was there that I learn to really appreciate how blessed I am to live in a great country called United State of America. It was there that made me appreciate what it is to be an America, NOT HALF AMERICAN, SUCH AS HISPANIC AMERICAN, BUT JUST SIMPLY AN AMERICAN.

I love this country and would never want it to become another Peru. This is my home, by children home, and my grandchildren home.

Fear grips immigrants after Miss. plant raid
By HOLBROOK MOHR
LAUREL, Miss. – A day after the largest single-workplace immigration raid in U.S. history, Elizabeth Alegria was too scared to send her son to school and worried about when she’d see her husband again.

Nearly 600 immigrants suspected of being in the country illegally were detained, creating panic among dozens of families in this small southern Mississippi town.

Alegria, 26, a Mexican immigrant, was working at the Howard Industries transformer plant Monday when U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents stormed in. When they found out she has two sons, ages 4 and 9, she was fitted with a bracelet and told to appear in federal court next month. But her husband, Andres, wasn’t so lucky.

“I’m very traumatized because I don’t know if they are going to let my husband go and when I will see him,” Alegria said through a translator Tuesday as she returned to the Howard Industries parking lot to retrieve her sport utility vehicle.

The superintendent of the county school district said about half of approximately 160 Hispanic students were absent Tuesday.

Roberto Velez, pastor at Iglesia Cristiana Peniel, where an estimated 30 to 40 percent of the 200 parishioners were caught up in the raid, said parents were afraid immigration officials would take them.

“They didn’t send their kids to school today,” he said. “How scared is that?”

One worker caught in Monday’s sweep at the plant said fellow workers applauded as immigrants were taken into custody. Federal officials said a tip from a union member prompted them to start investigating several years ago.

Fabiola Pena, 21, cradled her 2-year-old daughter as she described a chaotic scene at the plant as the raid began, followed by clapping.

“I was crying the whole time. I didn’t know what to do,” Pena said. “We didn’t know what was happening because everyone started running. Some people thought it was a bomb but then we figured out it was immigration.”

About 100 of the 595 detained workers were released for humanitarian reasons, many of them mothers who were fitted with electronic monitoring bracelets and allowed to go home to their children, officials said.

About 475 other workers were transferred to an ICE facility in Jena, La. Nine who were under 18 were transferred to the custody of the Office of Refugee Resettlement.

John Foxworth, an attorney representing some of the immigrants, said eight appeared in federal court in Hattiesburg on Tuesday because they face criminal charges for allegedly using false Social Security and residency identification.

He said the raid was traumatic for families.

“There was no communication, an immediate loss of any kind of news and a lack of understanding of what’s happening to their loved ones,” he said. “A complete and utter feeling of helplessness.”

Those detained were from Brazil, El Salvador, Germany, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, and Peru, said Barbara Gonzalez, an ICE spokeswoman.

“We have kids without dads and pregnant mothers who got their husbands taken away,” said Velez’s son, Robert, youth pastor at the church. “It was like a horror story. They got handled like they were criminals.”

Howard Industries is in Mississippi’s Pine Belt region, known for commercial timber growth and chicken processing plants. The tech company produces dozens of products ranging from electrical transformers to medical supplies, according to its Web site.

Gonzalez said agents had executed search warrants at both the plant and the company headquarters in nearby Ellisville. She said no company executives had been detained, but this was an “ongoing investigation and yesterday’s action was just the first part.”

A woman at the Ellisville headquarters told The Associated Press on Tuesday that no one was available to answer questions.

In a statement to the Laurel Leader-Call newspaper, Howard Industries said the company “runs every check allowed to ascertain the immigration status of all applicants for its jobs.”

Gov. Haley Barbour recently signed a law requiring Mississippi employers to use a U.S. Homeland Security system to check new workers’ immigration status.

The law took effect July 1 for businesses with state contracts and takes effect Jan. 1 for other businesses. Mississippi lawmakers once used laptops made by Howard Industries, but it’s not clear whether the company has current state contracts.

Under the law, a company found guilty of employing illegal immigrants could lose public contracts for three years and the right to do business in Mississippi for a year.

The law also makes it a felony for an illegal immigrant to accept a job in Mississippi. A message was left with the district attorney’s office after hours seeking comment on whether he would use the law to bring state charges against Howard Industries or the workers.

The Mississippi raid is one of several nationwide in recent years.

Why should deportations halt to Haiti?
Should 30,000 people with deportation orders just be allowed to stay?
There have been many other natural disasters which have been more damaging, and we have sent aid. Should these illegals be sent back to help build back their country?
Or at least suspend them for a small amount of time and then deport them back?

U.S. Halts Deportations to Haiti

Wednesday, 13 Jan 2010 05:23 PM

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano temporarily halted deportations Wednesday of some Haitians illegally in the U.S. in response to the Caribbean nation’s devastating earthquake.

Those with deportation orders will be allowed to remain in U.S. Those held in detention centers will remain jailed, Homeland Security spokesman Matt Chandler said.

The magnitude 7.0 earthquake that hit Haiti Tuesday is believed to have left thousands dead. Corpses were piled in the streets near flattened buildings as the world relief response got under way.

About 30,000 Haitians have orders to leave the U.S. and about 160 are in detention, according to the Homeland Security Department.

The U.S. deported 1,570 Haitians in 2008, Homeland Security statistics show.

The federal government has suspended deportations following previous disasters. Deportation flights to Haiti were suspended in September 2008 because of hurricane damage in the country. Those flights resumed in March for deportees with criminal records, according to members of Congress and immigration advocates.

Several members of Congress who represent Haitian communities have been pressuring the Obama administration to give temporary protected status to Haitians illegally in the U.S.

The designation would allow Haitians to remain and work legally in the U.S. and send some of their earnings to back home.

Matthew Chandler, a Homeland Security Department spokesman, said temporary protected status is an option that DHS considers in a disaster, “but our focus remains on saving lives.”

On a conference call with grassroots leaders and business officials, White House political director Patrick Gaspard told the listeners “the conversation around TPS is one that informs our thinking” on the U.S. earthquake response.

g r asked:

I’m a young guy and I got a new wife and baby in peru, and i do a lot of living there… and everytime I come back to Canada I go up to the counter at the airport to the scary looking people in those futuristic soldier outfits and give my declaration and passport then they they ask me some questions and i answer honestly and then they give back my declaration card with big red marker all over it. then i go to another, closed off place where someone pathetic creature interrogrates me inspects everything I have for an hour. They unfairly single me and savagely violate and invade me all the time. This gives me lots of stress all the time. I forgot my $500 new camera on the plane because of the stress and impending doom id soon be facing. and i never got it back. They asked me personal questions, where I met my wife and when and I told them and they wrote everything down and saved it. Are they allowed to keep this kind of extremely personal file on me? Are they even allowed to ask me???

When I was waiting there to be inspected I saw an almost 7 foot customs man who looks more like a criminal yelling full force in english at a small, old peruvian lady who didn’t speak english. it was the most disturbing and disgusting thing ive ever witnessed. i could see the total confusion and frighting look in her. she was almost crying. what could this harmless human being have done wrong? her only mistake was coming to canada it seems.

i want to make formal complaints because i am sick of this brutality and treatment and invasion of privacy. i don’t want to have a red marker on my paper again! how can i make sure of that? i would so like to enjoy a time when i could safetly and soundly come back to my home country. this makes me want to stay away from canada. and now i tell my peruvian friends and family that the canadian government is bad and mean. and we look at places in europe instead.

When I applied for a US tourist Visa (and eventually got it – for 10 years) I said that I was coming for a month only, but since than my plans had changed and I’ve been here for 4 moths already – for traveling only. Next month I plan on going to Peru and after wards back home, because my I-94 expires on April 11th.
Now the family that wrote me the invitation and were listed as the people whom I was staying with while in the US tried to invite another friend of theirs, who was refused a visa, because of me. Apparently, at the embassy, they asked her if she knew me, and she denied because everybody completely forgot that initially I was listed as staying with them.
Now, my question is, can I call somewhere or write some letter anywhere, explaining that I only staid with them for a week or two and that now I am traveling??? Because I would **** it if they could not invite none of their relatives because of me ((
HELP!!!! I’ve spent all day in the web looking for this information, but could not find anything (((
Thank you in advance, all your answers are very help full

NEWBURGH—A dozen individuals, said to be illegal immigrants, were arrested early Thursday morning at Stewart Airport in Newburgh and charged with first degree falsifying business records and first degree offering a false instrument for filing.

The defendants, all of whom resided in Newburgh with the exception of two who lived in New Windsor.

Wilian Castillo-Pineda,24, from Guatemala; Gerson M Loarte, 21, from Peru; Amelia Mejia-Montesinos, 36, from Mexico; Hugo N Saguilan, 28, from Mexico; Raul O Martinez, 40, from Chile; Enrique Zavaleta, 44, from Mexico; Jamie Serrano, 31, of New Windsor, from Mexico; Pablo R Serrano, 53, of New Windsor, from Mexico; Francisco Duque-Gonzalez, 40, of Mexico; Roberto C Galdamez, 21, from El Salvador; Pedro A Galdamez, 24, from El Salvador and Antonio Isidoro, 30, from Mexico.

An investigation by the NYSP at Stewart Airport and ICE revealed that illegal immigrants used false documents to obtain employment at Empire Warehouse Solutions at 149 Cargo Road in Newburgh. Once employed at the facility the workers had access to airport operations areas of the airport.

The investigation was initiated by an alert airport employee who questioned suspicious documents that were presented to him. During the verification process of these documents it was discovered that multiple employees of that facility had utilized similar forged documents to gain employment and access to airport operations areas. The documents consisted mainly of fake Social Security and resident alien cards. The investigation has revealed that there is no indication that these individuals ever posed a risk to the traveling public at the airport or had any connection to broader criminal activity, State Police said.

All of the defendants were processed at SP Montgomery and committed to the Orange County Jail in lieu of bail. Upon the adjudication of these charges the majority of these defendants will be held for deportation to their home countries, police said.

The investigation into the source of these documents is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the BCI at SP Montgomery at (845) 457 1388 or ICE at (866) DHS 2ICE. 12-17-09

Hi. I’m Peruvian and I am currently living in the US. I’ve been studying here since I was in 10 grade. Right now I’m in university pursuing my major in Int. Business w/ a concentration on Finance and Marketing. After I get my major, I’m gonna have to go back to Peru. I’ve been looking for places where I can get a paid internship but it is just so hard to find. I also would like to live in Canada, but some say it is simply impossible though I’m fluent with Spanish, English, and French and I took Intermediate Portuguese. I know I need to have at least one year experience to go anywhere and I am not sure if I’ll be able to find a job in my home country. So what do you recommend me? Where should I look for paid internships or what countries could give me work experience and maybe allow me to stay for a longer time? My ultimate goal is to immigrate to some other country. I’d be grateful if someone can help me out by giving me some good ideas. Thanks.
How can I inmigrante to Canada then?
