How Do I approach someone who hires illegal immigrants and now I am having things stolen from me?

peru home
Bobby T asked:

I had a computer delivered by DHL a week ago. The tracking number shows that the package was delivered to the apartment next door. I asked the owner and he claims that he has received nothing. He has had painters in his home over the last few days that he picked up out back at Home Depot to help him paint.
I can get a refund on the package, but it was very special to me. I was taking it to a boy in Peru who has physical disabilities and does not have resources for the use of computers. It was specially made to fit his needs. My flight is tomorrow to Peru and now I have nothing.
The neighbor next door is denying liability of the workers. What do I do?

If you have any sort of real evidence that they are illegal immigrants call INS, it is a serious crime.

Sucks if true, evil if you are making up the story about the kid in Peru.

Next time you get an important package, have it sent signature required in case you aren’t there. Make sure it is insured sufficiently. Arrange for a more secure place to have deliveries made.

Other then that seems like you will have to re-order.

I don’t see the theft, frankly.

Something you ordered was apparently mis-delivered, but it was never in your possession.

Meantime, maybe you can appeal to the local paper to write a story about the boy in Peru, and post all over craigslist for your area and so on. Seems time is tight though, maybe it will turn up while you are gone, if you can make it too hot to handle. Arrange for someone to be able to take delivery while you are gone, even if it is the reporter, no questions asked.

I am sure that the painters or whatever they were doing in repair work have zero interest in your computer.Probably the delivery boy saw you were not home and took it for himself. I would call the delivery company and complain because it should have required your signature. Second, I would call the computer company to complain about them not demanding a signature before dropping off the package. Do not blame an ignorant painter who has zero interest in a computer! Bye!
