My cousin is a really sweet kid and is in the 2nd grade,
about 2 months ago he was doing decentely in school
and now he has been having more and more problems
concentrating and focusing.
It’s quite strange actually especially since this started happening
more since I go here[I'm in Peru on summer vacation]
I hope it’s not me who’s affecting his work habits but
at home he seems very hyper and he can’t stay seated
and when he does sit down he’ll stand up a minute later.
He moves his hands continously and I’ve honestly though
that maybe he has ADD, but I’m not really sure because
this acting out personality of his has just popped out
of nowhere.
In school he doesn’t get his work done and the teacher
is constantly ragging on him and writing notes like
“Didn’t pay attention today” and she has already
moved him to the front of the class.
He comes home without all his notebooks when we’ve
made it clear to him that he must bring them home.
My aunt is against hitting but she has been strict.
I just don’t know what to do anymore,
it’s getting complicated and I’ve tried
numerous times to talk to him and sometimes
he actually talks back or he doesn’t respond.
My aunt has already grounded him from seeing
his dad this weekend but I think he knows that
she won’t hit him, just yell and he’s not scared.
I really need to know what to do because I
don’t want him to get held back.
Tomorrow I’m going with him to school and I’m gonna sit in the back of the class and observe him.

I’ve already tried giving him rewards,
I’ve told him I’ll buy him school supplies,
snacks, even playstation games and he
says “okay” and the next day he shows
up without his notebooks or a bad note
from the teacher.
His mom just hid the playstation two days
ago but he doesn’t seem to care.
Try bribing him if he does good in school let him pick out a videogame system or something along thoes lines give him incentives to study.
try and teach him that school is fun and whenever his grades emprove reward him and if he continues to not focus take away something of his and when he starts give it back.

well the one thing that would work is the old fashion spanking, it’s hard to deal with a child that doesn’t care.that’s why the kids today are out of hand.i guess every body is just going to raise kids that no one wants to be around. so sad.
